Insulin Pump Therapy Microcredential
Exclusive to CDEs
This microcredential is designed to give Credentialled Diabetes Educators (CDEs) a theoretical and practical understanding of continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII), also called insulin pump therapy (IPT).
The content covered in this microcredential is designed to be relevant for CDEs practising in all parts of Australia, from rural and remote areas to metropolitan regions.
This microcredential is suited for Credentialled Diabetes Educators (CDEs) who support people living with diabetes in a variety of environments, including clinics, hospitals, community spaces, and private practices, among others.
It is also important that CDEs practise within their role and scope.

Learning Objectives
After completing this course you will be able to:
-Describe insulin pump functions and the similarities and differences between various types of pumps available in Australia.
-Describe the roles of the healthcare team in supporting insulin pump users, fostering a team-based approach to diabetes care.
-Discuss and provide information to people living with diabetes or their caregivers to enable them to select the most appropriate insulin pump for their needs.
-Explain the funding for insulin pumps and the steps needed for funding to start insulin pump therapy.
-Recognise the components needed to operate insulin pumps, including the latest in hybrid closed-loop technology.
-Identify avenues for advanced training in the usage of current insulin pump models.
-Explain to people living with diabetes how to upload data and discuss the basics of interpreting and analysing insulin pump data.
-Identify and provide advice on common technical issues associated with insulin pump use.
-Review the latest research and clinical evidence supporting the use of insulin pumps.
The knowledge gained from this course will help to improve health outcomes, quality of life and overall wellbeing for people living with diabetes.
Course outline
This online course is designed for you to complete at your own pace. We recommend that you allow at least 4 hours to complete learning content and activities.
This microcredential has been accredited for 4 hours of Category 1 CPD or 4 CPD points, applicable to an individuals CPD plan upon sucessful completion of assessment.
Assessment
The course assessment consists of 20 multiple choice questions. To successfully complete the course and receive a certificate and digital badge, participants must achieve a pass mark of 80% or higher.
