Welcome to the microcredential on Diabetes medications: Insulin therapy for Credentialled Diabetes Educators (CDEs).  This microcredential is part of a comprehensive series designed to enhance your knowledge and skills in the pharmacological management of diabetes.

This microcredential focuses specifically on insulin therapy, covering key areas such as the objectives of insulin therapy, types of insulin, initiation and adjustment strategies, appropriate administration techniques, and recognising potential interactions and adverse effects. It aims to support CDEs in delivering high-quality, evidence-based care for people living with diabetes.

The content in this microcredential is tailored to meet the needs of CDEs practicing across Australia, from rural, remote or metropolitan regions.  
This microcredential is suited for Credentialled Diabetes Educators (CDEs) who support people living with diabetes in a variety of environments, including clinics, hospitals, community spaces, and private practices, among others.

Learning Objectives  
After completing this course you will be able to:  
- Explain the goals of insulin therapy in diabetes management
- Identify the types of insulins and their pharmacokinetic properties 
- Describe insulin management regimens, including initiation and adjustment strategies for insulin therapy 
- Describe appropriate administration techniques for insulin therapy
- Recognise potential interactions and adverse effects of insulin therapy
- Identify common barriers to insulin use and strategies used to overcome these barriers to promote Quality Use of Medicines 

The knowledge gained from this course will help to improve health outcomes, quality of life and overall wellbeing for people living with diabetes.  

Course outline  
This online course is designed for you to complete at your own pace. We recommend that you allow at least 2 hours to complete learning content and activities.  

This microcredential has been accredited for 2 hours of Category 1 CPD or 2 CPD points, applicable to an individuals CPD plan upon successful completion of the assessment.  

Assessment  
The course assessment consists of 12 multiple choice questions. To successfully complete the course and receive a certificate and digital badge, participants must achieve a pass mark of 80% or higher.
