The Professional Practice Microcredential is designed for health professionals pursuing credentialing as Credentialled Diabetes Educators (CDEs) or for ADEA members looking to refresh their knowledge.
This microcredential is designed to strengthen candidates' knowledge and understanding of professional practice. Participants will be able to apply professional standards in real-world clinical scenarios, conduct self-assessments, and reflect on their practice to define their individual scope and identify areas for growth. This microcredential supports ongoing professional development and growth as a CDE.
Completion of this microcredential is mandatory for those in the new initial credentialling pathway to become a Credentialled Diabetes Educator (CDE). Upon successful completion, a digital badge in the Leadership & Advocacy category will be awarded.
Learning Objectives
After completing this course your will be able to:
- Describe the core components of professional practice in diabetes education and care.
- Explain clinical governance and quality improvement principles as they relate to professional practice in delivering diabetes management and care.
- Apply the ADEA professional practice standards to real-world clinical settings.
- Identify and define your individual scope of practice.
- Complete a self-assessment of your practice against the ADEA National competencies and Standards of Practice.
- Reflect on your professional practice to identify strengths, areas for growth and strategies for ongoing professional development.

This online course is designed for you to complete at your own pace. We recommend that you allow at least 4 hours to complete learning content and activities.
This microcredential has been accredited for 4 hours of Category 1 CPD or 4 CPD points, applicable to an individuals CPD plan upon successful completion of assessment.
Assessment
The course assessment consists of 25 multiple choice questions. To successfully complete the course and receive a certificate and digital badge, participants must achieve a pass mark of 80% or higher.
