Technology Bundle!
This technology microcredential bundle is exclusive to Credentialled Diabetes Educators (CDEs) and combines two technology-focused microcredentials:
- Insulin Pump Therapy Microcredential
- Continuous Glucose Monitoring Systems (CGMS): Refresher and Updates
Together, these courses are designed to enhance your theoretical and practical understanding of insulin pump therapy and continuous glucose monitoring systems (CGMS), helping you stay current with advancements in diabetes technology and best practice.
The content is tailored for CDEs practising in all parts of Australia, including rural, remote and metropolitan settings, and is relevant to those working in clinics, hospitals, community spaces and private practice.
Across the bundle, you will explore:
- Functions and features of insulin pumps available in Australia
- Roles of the healthcare team in supporting insulin pump users
- How to support people living with diabetes in selecting the most appropriate insulin pump
- Funding pathways and requirements for commencing insulin pump therapy
- Components and operation of insulin pumps, including hybrid closed-loop technology
- Advanced pump training pathways and data upload processes
- New and updated CGMS available in Australia
- Differences and similarities between CGM systems, including recent updates
- Eligibility criteria and application processes for subsidised CGMS
- Integration of CGMS with smartphones, smart devices and insulin pumps
- Practical aspects of CGM use including sensor insertion, transmitter pairing, app setup and HCP software linking
- Interpreting insulin pump and CGM data, including Time in Range (TIR) and Ambulatory Glucose Profiles (AGP)
- Common technical issues in pump and CGM use and how to support users effectively

Learning objectives
On completion of both microcredentials, you will be able to:
- Describe insulin pump therapy functions and understand differences between pumps available in Australia
- Explain the funding process and requirements for commencing pump therapy
- Identify components and technology involved in current pump systems, including hybrid closed-loop
- Support people living with diabetes in choosing an insulin pump suited to their needs
- Upload, interpret and discuss insulin pump data with users
- Describe all CGMS available in Australia, including new devices and updated features
- Identify similarities and differences between CGM systems, including recent updates
- Explain eligibility and application processes for subsidised CGMS
- Understand integration options between CGMS, apps, smart devices and insulin pumps
- Describe practical steps for sensor insertion, transmitter pairing, app configuration and linking to HCP software
- Interpret and analyse CGM reports, including TIR and AGP
Course structure and duration
- Each microcredential is self-paced and fully online.
- Insulin Pump Therapy Microcredential: Approximately 4 hours
- CGMS Refresher and Updates: Approximately 3 hours
- Total recommended time for the bundle: 7 hours of learning content and activities.
CPD accreditation
Each microcredential in this bundle has been accredited for:
- Insulin Pump Microcredential = 4 CPD points
- CGMS Refresher Microcredential = 3 CPD points
- Complete bundle = 7 CPD points of Category 1 CPD, applicable to an individual’s CPD plan upon successful completion of assessments.
Assessment and certification
- Insulin Pump Therapy Microcredential: 20 multiple choice questions, pass mark ≥ 80%
- CGMS Refresher: Assessment activities with a required pass mark of ≥ 80%
- On successful completion of each assessment, participants receive a certificate and digital badge.
